James B. Longacre's seated liberty design with stars combined with the regular reverse die. It was executed by William Barber as Longacre had died in 1869. It is one of 4 design types produced this year.
Sets were produced in silver, copper and aluminum. Some dollars were produced with plain edges. Original sets in any metal are extremely rare. The Garrett silver set which included a plain edged dollar was sold piecemeal in Stacks 3/76 and Bowers & Ruddy's Garrett II sales.
