George T. Morgan's famous Liberty Head design previously believed to have been modeled after Anna Williams. Although listed second in Pollock, this is actually the first die. The reverse, showing a 7 sided shield was in the works by February 1877 when Morgan sent pencil sketches to Mint director Henry Linderman. To view those sketches, click here. (could be J1505), Brand, Farouk-Sothebys 2/54, Cox-Stacks 4/62, 66 ANA, Coronet Coin FPL, Champa-B/R 5/72, Sieck-81 ANA, Fred-B/M 11/95, ANR 7/05 - PCGS66RB - illustrated below. Although Pollock lists an example under P1661 with the other obverse, that coin is also a P1669. P1661 does not exist. To compare both obverses side by side, click here.
