This year is known for a Martha Washington cent J2180/P4100 struck on the copper-plated zinc planchets which began this year.
As the mint gave out these all-purpose dies to outside contractors, it is likely that at least some of these were struck outside the mint.
We are not sure what year this piece was actually struck. We place it here on the likelihood that at least some of these would have been made that year.
