This pattern, struck in nickel was struck using the 'Large Cent' obverse of 1840-1857. About 2 dozen are known. Later strikings show a die crack on the reverse above the denomination which extends from the first 'S' in 'States' through the open tops of the wreath. For an example of this, refer to the one illustrated in the Judd book. Examples were also struck in copper J648/P721 also with about 2 dozen known. There is also one known struck as a mint error. It is a flipover double strike ex Stacks 1941 Opezzo sale, Bolt, Numismatics Ltd, Bowers and Merena's 6/96, Sturgeon-Bowers and Merena 1/2002 where it is graded ANACS63BN and it is illustrated below.
